Hello everyone,
I just thought I would add a lesson on here.
The post just before this one, with me holding a baby Mocking bird? That is what they look like when the mother is taking them from their FIRST NEST..... Should you see one, DO NOT pick it up, if you do, you run the risk and thrill of moma to the rescue. Should she not convince you to let her child go, OTHER Mocking birds will join her in the beat the human in the head game.
I learned this while trying to put these babies back in their nest. They did NOT fall out, Lady K was TAKING them out. At least FIVE Mocking Birds were after me. This is very frightening and while protecting your face you could run into something. I know my heart has never beat so fast in my life!!!
Anyway, just sit and watch the mom and dad call the babies and see where they move them too, in three days they will be flying every where.
Mocking Birds are VERY fond of grapes and fruit, you might want to set some out for your Mocking Birds... Enjoy!

They have flown the coop.
On June 4th I went out and took these pictures and again, one is out of the nest. I think this nest is just too small.
On Sat. June 7th. Just four days later. I go out to see the babies and take pictures....
and there is NO ONE LEFT!!!
There are only two babies on the branches of their tree. Mom and Dad and another adult are singing and yelling. They are moving the babies. One is already in place, in my neighbors garden, where they will be shaded in the tender leaves and stems of the crop. They will have easy branch climbing in there for a few days.
As I took these pictures ALL ADULT MOCKINGBIRDS in the area were after me......... I was yelled at, flown into and almost landed on...... YES, I was afraid....Felt like I was in the movie the birds. LOL

After about an hour, They are called out of the tree and on their way to the garden, one at a time with SPARROWS keeping an eye out. I had noticed the sparrows stayed with the babies or near by the whole time. Now that they are moved the sparrows are over there as well. I guess they are the baby sitters.Wednesday, June 4, 2008
We have a choir!
The babies are singing!!!
I got out of my car today after work and what a NOISE!!! NOT beautiful yet but being Mockingbirds... they will be!
Here is my fast first attempt at recording them. Their first day singing(squalking) and I made a bad recording but here it is!

LOST Baby?
Around noon 0n 5-31-08
I stopped by Lady K's house to see the babies and see if we had a fourth one.
I saw only TWO BABIES!!! I looked UNDER the other two, removed the egg and still could not find the smallest one....
I looked all over the ground and the drive way...no baby
Then when I was about to stop looking, there it was, in the over grown grasses of the crape myrtle. Got the camera, picked up JR... took this picture before returning him.
He can make a noise now, it is ever so soft and faint.
He must have missed a few meals, the others slept and he sat with mouth wide open... Mother sat watching from above and came right away to feed him .
Lady K watching to see if I save her baby.
She stopped in for a fast look around and woke everyone up.
This egg did not hatch, I will clean it for Kay...
UPDATE ON THE EGG: This egg was very thin, it broke when I went to put a pin in it. Also, no baby in there.

Lady K's Babies are here!!
There are three babies!
At 7:40 pm. I went out in to the yard to pull weeds. After seeing the human Kay, and her telling me it is only about 15 days before the eggs hatch, I thought I best take a look in the nest. I reached up to pull the branch down so I could look in AND UP POPPED three yellow mouths....... NO SOUND....... Which after just killing a five + foot snake two nights before....... I thought SNAKE!!!! There went my heart again and ya know at fifty years of age I can not afford to do that to many more times!!!
Back to the birds:

Looks kind of like some sort of flower in there! (When you realize it is not a snake)
There were four eggs and one has not hatched yet, maybe tomorrow?
I lay this one on top to get his picture BUT... Apparently they LAY DOWN if they do not know you. Also at this age no sounds.... This one must have hatched first as he has fuzz and the small one has none! Maybe one hatches each day? I should have watched them better.
Once again they are waiting on the room service. I will go get crickets for Lady K tomorrow. She is going to need them, meal worms too maybe...
OH, I forgot to tell you, I have named the mom Lady K after my friend Kay. By the way Kay, You are welcome to come out and see them in real life!!! I will be working in the yard all day and would love to see you!!
Blurry but .... I will get more tomorrow... As of Monday the 26th of May they were just eggs. I THINK.... I looked on Wed. but can not remember, the age thing.
So, I am going to go with they were born on May 29th... That gives that fourth egg a day to hatch. I am so glad that snake did not get any of the eggs..

Kay's Mockingbird Lane
This was interesting, I had never tried getting pictures of a birds nest and eggs before. The thing is, if you are not tall enough it can be a bit dangerous. I got my riding mower out and climbed on it to get my camera close enough to get the picture. I did not know how many eggs were in there untill I saw the pictures. How thrilling was that? I also did not know what they would look like, now THAT was just tooo neat!
I came out the back door of another yard and saw a Mockingbird!!!
Wow, I have my camera all of the time now so I can get pictures for Kay.
As I approched the bird I noticed she had a BIG BUG(cool, bird and bug)
but then she went over to this brush and I saw a movement... A BABY Mockingbird! ON THE GROUND. Oh, how excited I was to get THIS picture... So excited I hit the OFF button TWICE before I actually got the pictures. GEEE....

I was at work and had to go back inside. Later I went to see if I could get a picture of the mom feeding him. He or she was not there... I looked all over and found the baby walking around in the yard as if he was the inspector.
This yard must have passed the inspection as I saw at least 8 Mockingbirds.
It has been a challenge to get a picture of a mom. I will keep trying.
